Artist of the Week Article From 3/12/11

Letter To The Homie Young Cash...

It was difficult for me to really write anything about the Cash situation at all for a number of reasons…
Primarily, I haven’t been around in any capacity in quite some time…
Additionally, you view the situation and its circumstance in such a way that you don’t want to look like how many others are viewed, as “showing up now that he’s locked up”

I met Joey when I was 20 years old…
A sophomore in college at TCC…
Joey was in TJ Chapman’s office and was talking to him about “Give Me A Bottle”…
Show’s what kinds of music person I was back then; I didn’t know Young Cash was from my hometown…lol.
But I would come across Cash at a party with DJ KD and T. Pain (Before he got his dreads redone and TJ started helping with the “I’m In Luv Wit A Stripper” record).
Cash seemed to be the type to stay to himself and kinda do his own thing…
I wouldn’t see Joey again until I was 21 and returned to Jacksonville…

I got an internship with Universal through Corporate Ken and Kato Cash and was told to work with the artist signed to Universal SRC that were in the Florida area…
That would be Grandaddy Souf and Cash…

Obviously, Cash wouldn’t remember me…
When I came in he was in the studio with M-Geezy and I met with Vic and told him I was there to pick work on any promo for Cash they needed me to do…
I always though Cash didn’t think I was serious about working for him, but I really did appreciate his music and found it to be some of the better quality records in the city.
I think for maybe Billy and Bodie…
I have the most Young Cash/ 904 Click/ M-Geezy “Flip Dat” remixes of anyone in the city…
His first mixtape with Billy is probably one of the most legendary mixtapes ever produced because you could hear Cash was HUNGRY!

My relationship with Cash for the most part has been professional, but there were times I walked into the studio and heard him humming a gospel song (that boys doesn't need the auto-tune yall!)…
Would hear him say to one of his homies, something profound about trying to do something to better for yourself…
The dayI got jump at Christopher's here in Jacksonville,  he called me just to see if I was alright…
And from what little I know about the interworking of his family life… I’ve always heard Joey was a great father, son, and sibiling.
I’m going to miss him while he’s gone because having to go away is something I don’t think anyone desires to do…
I think if anyone will learn from the experience and come out more driven and won’t delve into some sort of arrogance about “being locked up and not scared to go back,” it’s Cash…
Because I didn’t think hewas scared to go in and I don’t think he’ll be arrogant about having been there when he comes out…
I do think he’ll recognize it simply isn’t the place to be.
Joey Williams, like when the homie Q had to go away for a while, you are in my prayers.
May God continue to bless you and your family…
Thank you for the contributions you made to my career and this city.
I may not be here when you get out, but I’ll always think of you as one of the most stand up people I’ve ever had the privilege to come across…

“Out of the night that covers me…
Black as the pit form pole to pole.
I thank whatever gods may be…
For my unconquerable soul…”

Indeed Joey…
Indeed my brother…
God bless you…

Fancy... Sex Drive...

Oh so bitch you fancy?
A permeated thought…
Spreading across the minds of men like your vagina spreads inside foreign men’s beds…
And you want me to bed you tonight?
Guess your name is Katt Stacks…
Mixed with a lil’ Superhead…
They say you got super head…
Among other things that is…
A Facebook model fresh off the Myspace boat…
Bet you think them niggas following you on Twitter for more than that posterior that follows you…
But you Fancy, huh?
So let’s get it on tonight…
And I’ll let you get on it tonight…
Masturbating waiting on me to get out of the shower…
Draped in black panties and black bra listening to Fancy as you cum…
Here I come…
Everything big…
Including me…

I never got a chance to say goodby to Vic because as the years went on I went my way and in not seeing Cash much anymore I definitely didn't get to see Vic too much. Vic did a lot for me in the early years when I first got back from Tallahassee, so I couldn't ever bring myself to say a bad thing about him. So as many have already said, R.I.P. to the homie Vic... here's Cash's track, "In My Chevy"...

How Can You Hate On Chris Slade Now?

Well, I suppose given the right ammunition you can hate on anyone, but I will say Chris Slade has (after many years of searching ) found HIS voice and is becoming one of my favorite Jacksonville hip hop artist (behind Swordz of course... fuck you, we all have our preferences!) and I'm really happy for him. I know he's got some new stuff coming in 2011, but in the meantime, check out this mixtape from Chris hosted by DJ 151... "Partu The Cool" (doesn't that just SCREAM "cool ass weed smoking music that you can chill to?")
